Karnataka Govt Serves Notice to DIG Roopa on Agrahara Prison Issue

Mysuru: Karnataka state government has served notice to DIG D Roopa who gave media statement on alleged irregularities at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru and violated law, said Chief Minister Saiddaramaiah speaking to media persons here in Mysuru on Friday.

DIG should submit such report to the concern authorities and Roopa has no right to give her statement to media on the irregularities she found in the prison. Chief Minister arrived on his visit to his constituency Varuna in Mysuru to inaugurate various development projects on July 14.

In a report to chief secretary of the state government, home department secretary, DIG D Roopa stated that, jail DGP Satyanarayana Rao obtained Rs 2 crore bribe and violated law to provide special facilities to AIADMK (Amma Group) Chief Secretary VK Sasikala.  The report has also noted that, Abdul Karim Telgi, a convicted counterfeiter, who serves his term in the prison, has managed to get special facilities. Later, speaking to the media on the irregularities found in the prison, Roopa created chaos not only in the state police department but also in the state political sphere.

Speaking on the allegations made, jail DGP Satyanarayana Rao said, his service term in the police department is scheduled to end within three weeks and all allegations mentioned in the report are wrong. The report is prepared to get a wide publicity. The officer who narrated the facts should prove them with sufficient proof.
