Bengaluru: In a new statement, Karnataka state government has said that Indira canteens will start their service in only 125 wards of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on August 15, 2017 in the state capital. The government earlier stated that 198 Indira canteens will be kept open for the public on August 15, however citing some technical reasons the government is expected to open only 125 canteens. The remaining canteens are scheduled to start functioning on October 02, this year.
According to state budget announcement by Karnataka Chief Minister all Indira canteens would have started during the first week of June, 2017. Now, in a new statement, the government aims to start all canteens in two different schedules.
Non availability of land, difficulty faced during the transportation of building materials and others have prevented the government to start the project as per the schedule, said Bengaluru Urban Development Minister KJ George after a review meeting on Indira Canteen project held here on Friday.
Meanwhile, speaking on the allegations, complaints registered against alleged irregularities in Indira Canteen project, KJ George said that all allegation made by opposition BJP are baseless. He challenged the opposition BJP to prove all their allegations with sufficient proofs.
