Mangaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara said that the state government will take appropriate decisions regarding the HIjab issue after weighing the pros and cons.
He was speaking to the media in Mangaluru on Sunday.
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai himself said that the Hijab has not been banned and that the previous BJP government had not issued any order regarding the matter. Even if they have issued such an order, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that it will be thoroughly examined, Parameshwara said.
There is no need to create any confusions, he added.
Wearing a Hijab (head covering) has been a historical practice within certain communities. The variance in interpretation came to fore only during the BJP government’s tenure, Parameshwara said.
Further, he said, “We will not take any action outside the constitutional framework. Our decisions will be within these bounds, which may elicit mixed reactions. But we will take a decision only within the framework of the constitution.”
