Bengaluru: Prabhu Chauhan, Karnataka Animal Husbandry Minister urged citizens to use soaps, shampoos, incense sticks and other products made from cow dung and urine on January 7.
Chauhan said that there are other products besides milk, curd, butter and ghee, such as soap, shampoo, incense sticks, gaubhasma, panchagavya, wermicompost, guanyle and pesticides made from cow dung and urine. He further urged the citizens to use these products and cooperate in protecting cows.
The state government announced the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance on January 5. It promotes hefty punishment for killing cattle while protecting those acting in good faith to save them.
Chauhan informed that the officials have been directed to make sure that cows rescued from smuggling and slaughter are handed over to gaushalas.
He further added that they are getting details on the exact cost that will incurred to protect and conserve cows under the new law, which will be discussed with the chief minister for further action.
The new law cites imprisonment for cow slaughter up to 3-7 years and a fine ranging from Rs 1 lac to Rs 10 lacs.
