Bengaluru: According to a survey by the department of public instruction conducted last year after the COVID-19 outbreak, over 63% of toilets in government schools across the state are unfit for use.
According to reports, the closure of schools during the pandemic has worsened the situation.
Informing that the RDPR department has offered to build good toilets in government schools using the MNREGA funds, Suresh Kumar, Education Minister said, ” We proposed a new initiative, ‘Swaccha Shouchalaya-Utthama Shale’ for government schools in union budget and will include increasing funds for infrastructure and maintenance of toilets. ”
An activist working with different NGOs with regard to school toilet facilities informed that the government schools in Raichur, Kalaburgi, Bengaluru North, Mandya, Hubballi, and Bagalkot have the worst toilets.
