Even eight months after his death, scholar M.A. Hegde’s name is still shown as the Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president in the Depatment of Kannada and Sanskrit’s website.
Scholar M.A. Hegde passed away in Bengaluru on April 18, 2021. He was a native of Mandikoppa, near Siddapura in Uttara Kannada, and had retired as the principal of a college in Siddapura.
Following his death the government had appointed a person for his place which was objected by many people, as the result the departmet has not yet changed the name of the Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president.
Hegde, who was a gifted Yakshagana stage artiste, had written over 15 Yakshagana prasangas (scripts) including ‘Dharma Durantha’, ‘Seetha Viyoga’, ‘Jagruti’,’ Trishanku Charitre’ and ‘Sabarimale Ayyappan.’
He had also written books on the issues of Alankara Tatwa, Indian philosophy and Brahmasutra.
