Karwar: Mahadeva Naik, a resident of Manjuguni village in Ankola taluk, dug 30 feet deep well on his land, alone.
The village faces acute water scarcity during summer as the sole well in the village with more than 50 houses dries up.
Naik, a daily wage labourer, decided to dig up a well on his land for the village.
He started digging during last year’s lockdown and could not find water even after digging more than 25 feet.
When the second wave of the pandemic induced another lockdown. He used that time to dig further and finally succeeded.
Naik said that he could not afford to pay for additional labourers, so he did it all alone.
Naik efforts and success have brought him immense praise from the villagers.
