Karwar: Tadadi port will not be redeveloped

Karwar: In a move bringing cheers to the fishing community here, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has officially delisted the Tadadi port from its list of proposed ports for development and expansion.
Tadadi port near Gokarna in the Uttar Kannada district is an all-weather multi-purpose port.
Reportedly, the port was delisted as the Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC) failed to submit forest clearance documents to the Ministry in the stipulated time.
Marine experts have also expressed happiness over the ‘accidental’ cancellation of the project.
One such expert stated that building or expanding ports at estuaries causes ecological disaster and the accumulation of silt harms the livelihood of the fishing community. Adding that deepwater ports are the only suitable port system for modern ships.
