Kasaragod: Kerala’s Kasaragod has set the record as the first district in India where more than a hundred COVID positive patients have been cured.
The northernmost district of Kasaragod was the vulnerable spot in the fight against COVID-19 in the state. Of the 168 positive cases reported in the district, 115 patients have recovered, with no death reported till date.
Union Health Ministry has appreciated Kasaragod for the handling of coronavirus outbreak in the district and detailed the effective implementation of various containment measures despite the various unique challenges it faced.
“Kasaragod used drones for surveillance and employed GPS to good effect for tracking people on home quarantine. It also did aggressive testing,” said Joint Secretary of Health Ministry Lav Agarwal, during his press briefing.
All other districts in the country should take Kasaragod as a model in dealing with COVID.
Meanwhile, District Collector D Sajith Babu said “We implemented strict measures, including the restricting movement of people even before the lockdown declaration. We also decided severely punish the violators.
“Tactics like social pressurizing and public shaming were used to good effect for,” he added.
The district was also praised for keeping an effective check on black marketing, hoarding and price rise.
