Kasaragod: Police have intensified their investigation into the mysterious death of a mother-daughter duo at their home in Neerkarya Kundamguli in Bedadka.

Narayani (45) wife of Chandran, and their daughter Sreenanda (12) — were found dead at their home on January 22.

According to the preliminary findings of the autopsy, Sreenanda seemed to have been smothered to death. There were ligature marks around her neck. The preliminary post-mortem report also said that a pillow or some other object seems to have been pressed onto her face to confirm that she had died, police said.

Police said the autopsy report indicates that Sreenanda was murdered. They suspect that Narayani may have killed her daughter before ending her life.

However, the exact reason for the murder-suicide is still a mystery. Police said they are questioning the relatives and acquaintances of the deceased to ascertain the motive behind the crime.

Narayani rolled beedis while her husband Chandran worked as a tourist bus driver. He had left for Ooty on a trip a couple of days earlier. Their daughter Sreenanda was a grade-7 student at Kundamguli Government Higher Secondary School.

Bekal DySP P K Sunil Kumar and Inspector Damodaran are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the murder.
