Kasaragod: Dr. K Ramananda Kamath honored with Order of Australia Medal

In a momentous recognition on Australia Day, 87-year-old Dr. K Ramananda Kamath, hailing from Kasaragod in India, was bestowed with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his contributions to pediatric gastroenterology.
Dr. Kamath, a distinguished figure in the medical field, is acclaimed for establishing the first-of-its-kind pediatric gastroenterology department at Sydney’s Children’s Hospital, now known as Westmead Children’s Hospital.
Having pursued his MBBS at Madras University and further studies at Vellore CMC, Dr. Kamath’s illustrious career spans across London, Malaysia, and Australia. Notably, he played a pivotal role in initiating the pediatric gastroenterology department in the 1970s, contributing to Australia’s early strides in liver transplants for children.
Dr. Kamath’s commitment to advancing medical practices is evident in his pioneering efforts during the early days of liver transplants for children.
