Kasaragod: A man from Maharashtra who was suspiciously carrying Rs 30 lakhs in cash was arrested by the excise department sleuths here on Friday, September 16.

Sharad Dabade (22) was reportedly arrested for carrying a huge amount of cash without necessary proof or documents of its origin. The seized cash is suspected to be hawala money being transported.

Manjeshwar excise department officials intercepted the accused when he was traveling from Mangaluru towards Kasaragod on a KSRTC bus. The cash was found to be tied in a cloth. The accused allegedly claimed that the cash was being taken to unpledge jewelry that was pawned.

Meanwhile, Dabade has now been handed over to the police in Manjeshwar. The Source of the cash seized is being ascertained.
