Kasargod: In a humanitarian gesture, a Kasargod-based family donated one-acre of land, valuing worth Rs 75 lakhs for the Kerala flood victims.
A Udma resident, P A Ravindran’s decision to donate this piece of land, that he had bought some three years ago was well supported by his family which includes his wife Usha K, 47, and sons Akhil P R, 27, and Akash P R, 22.
On Thursday, August 23 the family handed over all documents of his land at Udama in Hosadurga taluk bearing survey number 44/6/ABE, blueprint and tax certificate to the District Commissioner (DC) Dr D. Sajit Babu.
Since the land was being donated for a noble cause, the surrender was facilitated under the Kerala Land Relinquishment Act, 1958 so that the donor would not have to bear the stamp duty cost
The donated land can either be monetised in future or it can be used to rehabilitate the several who have been rendered homeless due to the floods.
Experts to be sent
Meanwhile, the district administration has decided to send electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other work experts to the help the people in the flood-affected districts under Harita Kerala Mission.
