Kasturba Hospital, Manipal observes Brain day by organising awareness and education program on brain health

Dept of Neurosciences of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal has observed Brain day by organising Brain awareness education program on 22nd July 2023. Every year 22nd July is observed as World Brain Day. This year theme is “Brain Health and Disability: Leave No One Behind.” This international movement strives to close the information gap and increase public awareness of impairments to brain health.

It also emphasizes the importance of providing high-quality healthcare to individuals with disabilities, in addition to advocating for improved healthcare, education, and research concerning neurological disorders.

Dr Padmaraj Hegde, Dean KMC Manipal was the chief guest of the program inaugurated and said “The brain is the most important organ of the human body, this is responsible for the creation of our emotions, thoughts, and all actions. If we keep the health of the brain, it is like maintaining the health of our body. So brain health should be kept under control through a well-balanced diet and exercise. In this regard, World Health Organization celebrates World Brain Day on July 22 every year to create awareness about brain health.

Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, and guest of honor for the program, said that nowadays treatment is available for all diseases related to brain disease, but it should be detected early and treated on time. New technologies related to brain treatment, expert doctors, and specialized departments are available at Kasturba Hospital Manipal. He urges the public to make use of it in time.

Another guest of honor Dr Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer, Teaching Hospitals, MAHE Manipal distributed prizes to the winners of the poster competition on brain health.

Dr. Aparna R Pai, Professor and Head – Department of Neurology gave an overview of the program and said that a series of expert talks on brain health will be broadcast on the hospital’s Facebook page today as part of Brain Day awareness.

Dr. Raghavendra Nayak, Professor of Neurosurgery, gave a detailed overview of this year’s theme, “Brain Health and Disability”. Dr. Shripadma PV, Assistant Professor of the Department was the Master of Ceremony for the program.
