The incessant rains that lashed the coastal district of Karnataka have worsened the condition of the road with huge potholes appearing on the National Highway 66 posing danger to motorists.
On the stretch from Katapadi that leads to Udupi, a large pothole has emerged in the middle of the road. There are situations when motorists have to swerve off the road to avoid the pothole and it poses a danger to their lives.
During a downpour the road is waterlogged and the potholes go unnoticed by motorists. Even at night, in the absence of proper lights, the potholes pose risk to the two-wheeler riders. If not careful, accidents are bound to happen.
People have expressed outrage over the indifferent attitude of the concerned authorities to fixing the potholes which are also creating traffic snarls.
Apart from this, the vehicles too get impacted due to the condition of the roads and people have to spend a lot of money on their maintenance, it is alleged.
A motorist expressed ire stating that the authorities must stop playing with peoples’ lives and undertake road repairs at the earliest.
Though the government claims to have released crores of rupees, the conditions of the road are deplorable and people’s representatives are not bothered about the suffering of the common man, the locals alleged.
