Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has written a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressing opposition to the extension of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru-Kannur Express (Train No 16511/12) to Kozhikode.
Nalin stressed that extending the train’s journey to Kozhikode is an injustice to the people of the coastal region as it adversely affects ticket availability.
Nalin stated that the train initially began to provide connectivity between Mangaluru and Bengaluru but was later extended to Kannur amid opposition from the people.
There is a huge demand for this train and passengers are often waitlisted. As the train is extended to Kozhikode it has resulted in reduced ticket availability for Mangaluru passengers. Passengers are complaining about this extension and their pleas must be taken into consideration.
Further, he pointed that Train No 16527/28 is plying between Kannur-Bengaluru via Kozhikode and can cater to the needs of Kozhikode residents.
Citing that the new extension is unnecessary as it leads to unnecessary duplication of services, Nalin asked Vaishnaw to intervene and continue the status quo.
