Kaup: Adding to the scenic charm of Kaup Beach, known for its fort ruins and the iconic British-era lighthouse atop a massive rock, paramotoring rides are set to begin on December 1, 2024. With the Department of Tourism’s approval, this initiative is led by Karavali Adventure to promote adventure tourism in the coastal region.

What is Paramotoring?

Paramotoring is a type of ultralight aviation that combines adventure sports with aerial photography opportunities. Pilots and riders use a motorized unit strapped to their back, connected to a wing. The portable engine-driven propeller system allows takeoff and flight without the need for a traditional runway, making it ideal for open spaces. Pilots can adjust speeds easily, enhancing the experience.

8–10 km Ride Over the Coast

The paramotoring ride will cover an 8–10 km stretch from Kaup Beach to Mattu Beach and back, offering tourists a breathtaking aerial view of the serene coastline. Trained pilots will manage the single-rider paramotoring experience. Bookings can be made online or via phone.

Additional Attractions at Kaup Beach

Kaup Beach is already a hub for adventure and leisure activities, including scuba diving, mini-bike rides, camel rides, and seating arrangements to relax under the sun. Starting December 1, water sports such as speed boat rides, jet skis, banana boat rides, and bumper rides are expected to resume, adding to the entertainment options.

Unique Features of Kaup Beach

  • Pristine waters and clean sandy shores make it a popular destination for tourists.
  • The 27-meter-tall lighthouse, built in 1901, is one of the main attractions.
  • Tourists can enjoy watching waves crash against the rocky outcrops.
  • Caution is advised while exploring the rocky areas and playing in the water.

Future Plans

Efforts to secure permission for paramotoring have been ongoing for two years. While the current setup allows for single-rider paramotoring, plans are in place to introduce double-rider options soon, according to Rajesh S. Suvarna of Karavali Adventure.

Safety First

Assistant Director of Tourism Kumar C.U. confirmed that permission has been granted for paramotoring rides, with clear instructions to ensure visitor safety and convenience. Measures have been implemented to avoid inconvenience to other beachgoers.

Boosting Coastal Tourism

MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty lauded the initiative, stating, “Efforts to introduce paramotoring and water sports, with private partnerships, are welcome. We aim to boost tourism at Kaup, as well as at Padubidri, Hejamadi, Mattu, and other beaches.”

With this addition, Kaup Beach is set to become a hotspot for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
