Kaup: A traditional toddy tapper, who had been injured after falling from a coconut tree, died at a hospital on June 21.
The deceased, identified as Vinodhara A Sanil (55) of Tali Thota in Uliyaragoli here, had climbed a coconut tree for toddy tapping on June 4. During the tapping process, he accidentally hurt himself after the sickle hit his left elbow and he fell off the tree.
He was rushed to Hi-Tech hospital from where he was referred to KMC hospital in Manipal for advanced treatment.
He was admitted to the ICU and had undergone surgery on June 11. Thereafter the family shifted to ICU at the government district hospital in Udupi on June 18.
Vinodhara died on June 21 without responding to treatment, a complaint registered by his son Nitin at the Kaup police station said.
