Kalaburagi: Two persons have been arrested in Kalaburagi for sheltering R D Patil, the alleged mastermind of irregularities in several government recruitment examinations.

The arrested have been identified as Shankar Gowda Yalwar of Shahapur and Dilip Pawar — the owner and manager of the Mahalakshmi Apartment in Kalburgi’s Varada Layout from where Patil had escaped on November 6.

It is gathered that Pawar let R D Patil stay in the apartment and took an advance of Rs 10,000 which he gave to the owner Shankar Gowda.

Gowda and Pawar kept the information secret despite knowing R D Patil’s identity and that he was wanted by law enforcement, police said.

Sources said, R D Patil had arrived at the apartment on the night of November 5 and hid there, as the police were searching for him in connection with his involvement in the irregularities in the recruitment examination conducted by KEA.

He got wind of the police raid and fled from the spot on November 6. His escape from the premises was captured on CCTV footage of an adjacent building.

R D Patil has also been a prime suspect in the PSI recruitment scam.
