Mithun Babu, a native of Kaniyambetta in Kerala’s Wayanad district, had ordered a passport cover from Amazon but got an original passport along with the product.
Mithun ordered a passport cover from Amazon on October 30. The package arrived on November 1, but when he opened it, he discovered a real passport in addition to the cover.
Mithun contacted Amazon customer service right away. However, he was taken aback by the response. “It will not be repeated,” the customer service representative stated, “and we will instruct the merchant to be extra careful next time.” They did not, however, specify what should be done with the passport that came with the cover.
According to the information on the authentic passport, it belongs to Mohammad Salih, a native of Kerala’s Thrissur district. Due to the lack of a phone number in the passport, the owner could not be contacted at first. Mithun’s efforts, however, led to the discovery of the owner.
Mithun claimed that the passport cover he received was likely ordered first by Muhammad Salih, and that he double-checked the cover with his own passport. “When he didn’t like the product, he replaced it without taking back the passport. The returned product was not properly inspected by the seller and they sold it when they received another order,” said Mithun.
