Malappuram: A 17-year-old girl in Kerala’s Malappuram district managed to keep her pregnancy a secret from her parents and gave birth to the baby by watching YouTube videos.
The girl’s mother is visually impaired while her father works as a security guard and is always out on night duty. The teen reportedly used the pretext of online classes and used to stay in her room most of the times. On October 24 she delivered the baby inside her bedroom guided by YouTube videos.
The girl stayed locked in her room for three days after the delivery. Her mother came to know about the delivery after hearing the baby cry. She immediately took the girl and the newborn to the hospital where they are currently in recovery. Hospital authorities notified the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) about the teenage pregnancy, who later reported the matter to the police.
The police have arrested a 21-year-old neighbour, who allegedly impregnated the minor girl, under the Pocso Act. Police said that the accused and the minor were in a relationship and their families knew about it. However, the duo kept the pregnancy a secret and the accused is said to have advised her to watch YouTube videos to learn how to cut the umbilical cord after delivering the baby.
