Bengaluru: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti a KFC outlet was forced shut down for serving non-vegetarian food.
The Basavanagudi police officials on Tuesday closed down the outlet at Basavanagudi North Road.
The BBMP had issued a circular on Monday directing “all meat shops in the city should be closed and the selling of any meat is prohibited on Gandhi Jayanti.”
The police reported that they received a complaint regarding the KFC outlet serving non-vegetarian food. By the time the Hoysala patrol staff reached the spot they had closed the store.
However, the staff denied allegations and told that they did not serve non-veg food.
A police official said it is understood that cutting animals and even selling non-vegetarian food is not prohibited on Gandhi Jayanti.
The police had directed all the restaurants, hotels and other establishments as not to serve meat on Gandhi Jayanti.
A BBMP official said, “On October 2 serving non-vegetarian food is strictly prohibited and if anyone is doing that police can close the shop.”
