Khader releases River Fest logo

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district in-chagre minister U T Khader released the logo of the River Fest to be held at Bangra Kuloor on Jan 12th 13th at the DC’s office on Tuesday Jan 1st.

After releasing the logo, Mr Khader spoke and informed that the aim of the fest was to create awareness on the tourism potential of DK district and protect our rivers. “The local administration must extend a helping hand towards organizing river fests in the taluk level also,” said the minister.

Speaking on the occasion, DK DC S Sasikanth Senthil said that A film festival, highlighting the need to conserve rivers and water, will be organised on Jan 12th and it will be the special feature of the two-day river festival organised by the district administration in association with the Tourism Department. A food festival will also be held to present the flavours of local traditional delicacies to the visitors.

20 acre site

20 acres of land has already been identified at Bangra Kuloor for organizing the various activities including the river festival, food festival and the others. The river festival will be held from Kuloor and Sultan Battery to Thannirbavi on River Phalguni. Music by local artistes including a Koraga band will be the highlight. Visitors can reach Bangra Kuloor via Sultan Battery, Thannirbavi and Kuloor through boats.
Though there are roads leading to the location, they shall remain closed, informed the DC.

“Various programmes including water sports like jet skiing, stand-up pedaling, speed boat rides, kayaking, banana boat rides and cultural programmes will be held during the river fest. Floating restaurants too will be set up along with around 20 floating jetties on the venues, from Kuloor to Sultan Battery and Thannirbavi. The government has released Rs 25 lakh for the occasion and we need the support of the people to make the fest a success, said the DC.

Abbakka Utsav

The DC announced that ‘Abbakka Utsav’ will be held in an organized manner in February this year and a committee will be set up for its organization, he said.
