Khap Panchayat in Karnataka asks Rape Victim to Pay Rs 20,000 to stay in her Native Village

Ramanagar: In a humiliating incident in Karnataka, an 18 year old rape victim has asked to pay Rs 20,000 by a Khap Panchayat to stay at her native village in Channapatna of Ramanagar district. The victim delivered a male child after a brutal rape on her two years earlier and the child was adopted by the Adoption Centre in Ramanagar. The rape victim was a minor when she became the victim of the horrifying act and considering fact, Children’s’ Welfare Committee handed over the minor to Girls Government Hostel in Mysuru. Recently, the victim was arrived to her native place from the hostel and following this, the Khap Panchayat has ordered her to pay Rs 20, 000 as fine for the rape, if she wants to stay in the village.
Meanwhile, the victim has urged the district administration to interfere in the matter as she doesn’t have the money to pay for the Khap Panchayat. The victim has also requested the district administration to allow her to stay at her native place. The victim had lost her mother in her childhood and her father was died two years back. For the time being, she has been staying at the residence of her relative after her brother reluctant support her.
