Kidnap of minor girl: Accused nabbed

Puttur: The police have successfully arrested an accused in connection to the kidnap of a minor girl regarding which a complaint had been filed at the rural police station here on March 9th here. The accused who was absconding is identified as Akhter Hussain and was caught in Kerala.
The abducted girl in question was rescued from Bongaigaon in Assam on March 17th after the personnel of the station including police sub-inspector Saktivelu and constables Adrama, Vinay Kumar and Gayatri, went to Assam. During the rescue operation, the accused managed to make good his escape. However, the rescued girl was handed over to her parents while the police continued hunting the accused.
The medical examination of the girl revealed that the minor girl had been sexually exploited. Consequently, a case under the various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered.
The arrest
Based on credible information of about the accused being in Kerala, Police SI Saktivelu, probationary SI Uday Nayak and other staff arrested Akhter from Nettanige in Kerala on June 3. The accused was later produced before the court where he was remanded to judicial custody.
