In a fresh twist in the Kim Kardashian-Marilyn Monroe dress saga, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! claims that the actress did not cause any harm to the gown. Marilyn Monroe’s Collection alleged in a popular Instagram post that Kim ruined the legendary outfit worn by the late actress on John F Kennedy’s birthday in 1962.

For this year’s Met Gala, Kim Kardashian chose the artefact. According to the New York Post, she only wore it for a few minutes before changing into a replica gown as soon as she reached the top of the stairs.

As per Ripley’s, a report on the dress’ condition in 2017 states “a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes.”

“From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in,” said Ripley’s VP of Publishing and Licensing Amanda Joiner in a statement on Thursday.

The 41-year-old businesswoman attended the event without wearing any makeup on her body. According to a spokesman for Ripley’s, she treated the outfit with the utmost respect.

The Marilyn Monroe Collection Instagram account posted photographs of new damage to the gown on Monday, including lost crystals and others holding on by a thread.

Ripley’s was called out for letting Kardashian take the dress in the first place. “Our mission is to both entertain and educate visitors and fans, and sparking conversations like the discourse around Marilyn Monroe’s dress does just that.” said Ripley’s.
