Kites encourage people to cast votes

Udupi: With the aim to create voter awareness and encourage everyone to vote in the parliamentary elections in Udupi district, the District Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee, and the Malpe Beach Development Committee organised a kite festival here on Saturday March 30.

The voter awareness programme was participated by persons with disabilities as well. They held placards which gave the messages of importance of voting in the elections. Additionally, cultural programmes bearing the same message were held at the beach.

Professional kite flying teams from Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chickballapur and other areas participated in the event. A variety of kites took to the sky including those in the shapes of teddy bear, dragon, ring, pipeline and LED kites.

The kite festival was inaugurated by Sindhu B. Rupesh, CEO of Zilla Panchayat and President of District SVEEP Committee. Gracy Gonsalves, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department, and others were present.
