Bengaluru: Consumers of the ‘Nandini’ brand will have to shell out more for milk purchases as the prices have been hiked again.

Karnataka’s apex body for dairy cooperatives, the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (KMF), has decided to increase the price of its ‘Nandini’ brand of milk and curd by Rs 3 per liter.

The revised prices will come into effect from tomorrow, i.e. November 15.  With the latest hike, toned milk will go up to Rs 40 from Rs 37 earlier.

KMF said that the price revision was necessary considering the inflation and other difficulties faced by the dairy farming community. The benefits of the price increase will be transferred to the farmers, it added.

On October 30, KMF’s Chairman Balachandra Jarkiholi had hinted that milk prices would be revised soon. The prices of KMF’s ‘Nandini’ brand of milk will be revised soon.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a Refrigeration plant at Hoolikatti, Jarakiholi said that all 16 district milk unions had submitted proposals to KMF for revising the milk prices by as much as Rs 3 per liter. Considering the inflation, it is necessary to raise the prices of milk in the interest of farmers, he had said.

This is not an isolated case. Leading milk suppliers in the country, Amul and Mother Dairy, had increased prices of full cream milk by Rs 2 per liter in mid-October this year citing a rise in input costs.
