Bengaluru: With an aim to foster a spirit of patriotism and knowledge-sharing, the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department has announced plans to celebrate India’s Independence Day across Gram Panchayat Libraries and Information Centers throughout the month of August.
The initiative aims to transform these libraries into knowledge centers by offering various engaging activities under the banner of the “Light of Reading” programme.
Library supervisors have been tasked with inspiring school children visiting the libraries to create tricolor badges. Encouraging them to spend quality time in the libraries, the children will use paper and colors to craft these badges, which they will proudly wear during their respective school’s Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
Moreover, the initiative seeks to introduce young minds to the core values of the Indian Constitution at an early age. Library personnel will distribute copies of the Preamble of the Constitution, encouraging children to write it out beautifully and frame it using a myriad of colors.
Additionally, children will be encouraged to create artifacts related to the Preamble at home and proudly display them in the libraries.
Patriotic songs are being taught to children, fostering confidence and patriotism through group activities. The learned songs will be recorded in videos and showcased during the Independence Day celebrations at the libraries and schools.
The initiative also aims to educate students about the freedom movement and the invaluable contributions of Karnataka’s fighters to India’s independence. Local elders and school teachers are actively involved in sharing these historical narratives to inspire the younger generation towards nation-building.
Further enhancing the patriotic spirit, the department plans to screen films highlighting patriotism, social concern, and heroic figures.
With this initiative, Bengaluru’s Rural Libraries are set to become vibrant centers of knowledge and national pride, empowering the youth with a deep appreciation for India’s heritage and democratic principles.
