Kollur: Two children drowned in a pond at Nandroli in Bellala village on Saturday afternoon. Their mother, who attempted to rescue them, was saved and admitted to the hospital, where her condition remains critical.
The deceased children are identified as Dhanraj (13) and Chhaya (7), residents of Chikkanakattu. Their mother, Sheela Madivala (40), is in a critical condition.
Both children were students at Vandse Higher Primary School. Sheela’s husband, Satish Madivala, works as a hotel employee in Vijayapura.
The incident happened when Chhaya slipped and fell into the nearby pond. Dhanraj attempted to save her, but both drowned. Their mother, Sheela, also tried to rescue them but also began to drown. Agricultural department officials passing by in a car noticed the incident and called the locals, who managed to save Sheela. Unfortunately, both children had already lost their lives.
Sheila has been admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur for treatment. Doctors have reported that her condition is critical but she is out of immediate danger.
A case has been registered at Kollur police station. Officials have visited the site for further investigation.
