Koppal: Five members of a family traveling in a Scorpio car died on the spot as a result of a collision with an unidentified vehicle in a hit and run case that occurred late on Saturday night.
The wreckage of the car was found near Bhanapur in Kukanur taluk of the district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Devappa Koppada (62) of Binnala village in Yalaburga taluk, his daughter-in-law Girijamma (45), nieces Shantamma (35), and Parvatamma (32), and a relative Kasturamma (20).
Four others — Harshvardhan who was driving the car and three children Basavaraja, Puttaraja, and Bhumika — were injured in the accident and were rushed to the district hospital for treatment.
Nine members of the family were on their way home in the ill-fated vehicle after attending a birthday party in Koppal. An unidentified vehicle rammed into the Scorpio and fled without stopping, sources added.
