Koppala: A young woman from Chilawadagi village of Koppala taluk was forced into the scorned Devadasi practice by her family. Three of her family members have been arrested.

The young woman’s family allegedly forced her into the Devadasi system. The family reportedly performed the ‘Mutthu’ rituals at Huligemma Devi Temple in the taluk. These rituals symbolize the entry of a girl as Devadasi.

Purnima, an officer of the Women and Child Rehabilitation center here, got to know about the incident and lodged a complaint with the Munirabad Police Station.

Police booked cases against four accused, who are the victim’s family members. Three among them have been arrested and have been sent to judicial custody. One accused is still absconding.
