Kundapur: In connection with the Kota double murder case, the supreme court has overturned the Karanataka high court order granting bail to zilla panchayat BJP member for his involvement in the gruesome murder.
On January 26, 2019 Yatish Kanchan and Bharat were murdered following an argument over construction of a leach pit. On the basis of the confessions made by the arrested accused, the police arrested zilla panchayat BJP member Barikere Raghavendra Kanchan for his involvement in the murder.
The accused had approached the high court after a lower court dismissed his bail petition and was successful in securing conditional bail. Subsequently, six other accused in the case too were granted bail by the district additional sessions court here.
Parvati, mother of deceased Bharat had challenged the high court order granting bail to the accused in the supreme court. After hearing arguments presented by her advocate Chandrashekar the supreme court cancelled the bail granted by high court to Raghavendra Kanchan.
Elated over the verdict, Parvati said that this was the first step towards obtaining justice for her son Bharat and his friend. “Despite our financial crisis, I am fighting for justice by borrowing money from local groups and institutions. My prayers to Kota village deity Amrutheshwari Thayi for justice will be answered,” she hoped.
