KPCC president appointment: Dinesh Gundu Rao meets Rahul Gandhi

Bengaluru: Bengaluru: Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao met senior leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, March 7 to discuss the appointment of a new president for Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
After the meeting, Rao stated that he had a good meeting and has requested Rahul Gandhi to take a decision on the appointment soon.
It may be recalled that Rao had tendered resignation from the post of KPCC president after the Congress’s defeat in the December 2019 bypolls. Taking moral responsibility for the party’s dismal performance in the bypolls, Siddaramaiah too had resigned as leader of the opposition in the assembly.
It is alleged that high factionalism in the state unit of the party has prevented the appointment of the state’s Congress chief till now.
Some want DK Shivakumar to head KPCC but Siddaramaiah had suggested MB Patil, from northern Karnataka region for the post. Siddaramaiah is also supposedly against the idea of having separate individuals in the position of leader of the opposition and Congress legislature party chief.
