Mangaluru: KPTCL construction chaos; Danger near State Bank Bus Stand

Mangaluru: Construction work by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) near the State Bank bus stand in Mangaluru has been causing severe inconvenience and safety hazards for pedestrians and commuters for over six months. Construction materials have been stacked along the road and sidewalks, blocking access for those on foot and creating obstructions for buses entering the station.
The bus stand sees over 500 trips daily by private and KSRTC city buses, making it a busy hub already constrained by limited space. Due to the crowded conditions, some buses are forced to stop along the roadside, leaving little room for pedestrians to walk.
The ongoing footpath construction project has also been disrupted as construction materials occupy the area intended for the new sidewalk, leaving it incomplete.
Pedestrians, including women and elderly citizens, now face risky walks through traffic, manoeuvring between buses and other vehicles. While construction materials cover one side of the road, old electric poles are placed on the other, adding to the danger.
Local bus drivers and pedestrians have urged authorities to clear the materials immediately to avoid potential accidents.
