KSRTC bus driver sentenced for fatal accident in Belthangady

A Belthangady court sentenced a KSRTC bus driver to prison time and imposed a penalty in connection with a 2022 accident case that claimed the life a person and injured another.
The incident occurred on December 20, 2022, when Vijay, a resident of Vagga in Bantwal taluk, was traveling on his motorcycle from Ujire towards Belthangady. A KSRTC bus collided head-on with his bike near Kakkena in Laila village resulting in Vijay sustaining severe head and facial injuries. He succumbed to the wounds while being transported to the Belthangady Government Hospital.
The pillion rider, Shailesh, sustained injuries to his right thigh and was treated at the SDM Hospital in Ujire. Following Shailesh’s complaint, a case was registered at the Belthangady Traffic Police Station.
After investigating the case, Belthangady Civil Judge and JMFC Court Judge Sandesh K. found the bus driver, Ashok Bhosale (59) of Dharwad, guilty. The court pronounced the sentence on December 23, imposing a one-month imprisonment and a Rs 1,500 fine.
The chargesheet was filed by Shivakumar B., the then Belthangady Circle Inspector, while Assistant Public Prosecutor Ashitha M.A. represented the government in court.
