Mangaluru: GPS based announcement of bus stops on the route will be soon installed in KSRTC buses operating in Mangaluru. Like its metro system, KSRTC Mangaluru depot is all set to introduce ’GPS Based Next Stop Announcement System’ in all the buses.

In the first phase of the installation, 100 KSRTC buses will be fixed with the system. The system being introduced is different from the one used in Bengaluru and Mysuru. The GPS-based Next Stop Announcement System will track the bus stops en-route based on the latitude and longitude of the location.

On a pilot basis, Mangaluru depot has already introduced the system in 10 buses on Mangaluru-Kasaragod route. An outsourced agency has been charged with maintining the system through advertisement revenue.  Soon, the next stop announcement system will be introduced in 100 buses that operate from Mangaluru depot, informed M B Jaishanth Kumar, divisional traffic officer of KSRTC.

“Along with in introduction of GPS-based Next Stop Announcement System, the buses in Mangaluru will also play music and it will have automatic volume control. The volume of the music will increase automatically when the speed of the bus increases,” he added.
