Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the allegations made by JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy regarding the suicide of the transport department driver, stating that they are untrue.

Addressing presspersons at Vidhana Soudha to commemorate the 37th death anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his disagreement with Kumaraswamy’s claims that Minister Cheluvarayaswamy is responsible for the suicide of transport department driver.

The driver who tragically took his own life left behind a note mentioning Minister Cheluvarayaswamy, leading to demands of the minister’s resignation.

The Chief Minister remarked that he would consider this request; however, he also highlighted that the driver’s wife is a panchayat member aiming for the position of president. Siddaramaiah emphasized that the driver’s suicide was a result of the transfer he had undergone and subsequent feelings of despair, rather than any corrupt dealings.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah acknowledged Kumaraswamy’s frustration regarding transfers within the government. He clarified that transfers were carried out during Kumaraswamy’s tenure as well, and it is unfounded to assume that any illegal payments were involved. With the new government in place, transfers are being conducted in the best interest of administration.

Siddaramaiah pointed out that during the enforcement of the Election Code of Conduct in March and April, transfers were prohibited. At present, routine transfers are taking place.
