Bengaluru: The Congress party in the state has already begun preparing for the Assembly elections scheduled for 2018.
Addressing a party meet on Monday, KPCC president Dr G Parameshwara directed party observers appointed to oversee preparations for the elections in every district and also to submit a report on public opinion regarding sitting MLAs as well as defeated candidates in the 2013 Assembly elections in respective constituencies. The candidates for the 2018 elections will be based on the report submitted and the list is said to be prepared by the end of next month.
Sources say that the party intends to announce candidates for the forthcoming elections at least six months before the polls. Further, district units have been asked to prepare a report based on the implementation of the government’s flagship programmes and they are also free to suggest initiatives that could be taken to prepare for the elections.
Meanwhile, party sources have said that action had to be initiated against senior leaders like Janardhana Poojary and Jaffer Sharief for criticizing the government; Dr Parameshwara informed that he had already brought the issue to the high command’s notice.
