Bengaluru: The Siddaramaiah-led government has decided to introduce new text books for classes 1-10 during the academic year 2017-18.

Addressing the Assembly, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait said that the textbooks would be printed and distributed to students before the academic year commenced.

However, the opposition urged the government not to rush through introducing the new text books as about five crore textbooks spanning 411 titles in seven languages would have to be printed. Moreover, they opined that a debate had to be held on what has been added and deleted.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Suresh Kumar noted that the word ‘motherland’ had been removed from the textbooks during the revision.

The BJP members then staged a walkout after Sait said that the government was going ahead with their decision of introducing new textbooks.
