K’taka Budget 2023: Fee waiver, Free bus pass and more for education sector

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai is presenting the budget for the year 2023-24 and has made big announcement for the education sector.
The Raitha Vidyanidhi Scholarship for encouraging children of farmers has been extended to the children of fishermen and weavers. Rs 141 crore rupees will be disbursed to three lakh students.
The CM announced that Rs 350 Crores will be spent for giving free bus passes to school and college students under ‘Vidyavahini’ scheme.
Chief Minister Vidya Shakti Yojana will be launched. It will provide fee waivers to students who pass High School to pursue education in government PU and degree colleges. This will benefit 8 lakh students, he said.
As many as 9,556 schoolrooms will be constructed. 47 residential schools to be upgraded. 30 Kasturba Gandhi residential to be equipped with Hi-tech facilities, the CM announced.
Action will be taken for the construction of Shrusti tinkering laboratories, he said.
New medical college for Chitradurga
A new medical college will be set up in Chitrduga at an outlay of Rs 500 crores, CM Bommai announced.
Postgraduate medical courses have begun at Mandya and Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, he said.
