K’taka flood: Govt decides to allocate Rs 10,000cr for flood relief activities

Bengaluru: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa held the second Cabinet meeting of the BJP government on Wednesday, August 14. In the meeting, CM took a decision to release Rs 10,000 crore, including Rs 6,200 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) for flood relief activities.
On the same occasion three major infrastructure projects in the CM’s home district, Shivamogga also got the nod during the meeting.
It may be recalled that earlier, a high-level meeting had decided to release Rs 3,800 crore from the state treasury for flood relief and another Rs 6,200 crore from NDRF assistance. However, sources informed that a senior officer from New Delhi held a meeting with state officials, where it was indicated that the Centre may extend assistance up to Rs 6,200 crore.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Ranebennur railway project with an estimated cost of Rs 956 crore. Besides, the mini-airport in Shivamogga would be developed at a cost of Rs 38 crore by KSIIDC. The Cabinet gave administrative approval for a proposal to fill 66 minor irrigation/ZP tanks using the water of Varada river at a cost of Rs 285 crore.
