Belagavi: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the government was planning to implement a crash course on self-defence along with Yoga from the next academic year onwards for girls.
Addressing the gathering at a Karate demonstration by girl students for self defence at Suvarna Soudha on Friday, he said, “Crash course on self-defence at every institution is the need of the hour. Along with Yoga, self-defence training from the pre-university level will be apt. The government will take a call on it.”
“While I was the state home minister, a decision with this regard was taken. I must appreciate the residential institutions for taking this up and incorporating self-defence training for students at a large scale”, he added.

Further, he said, “The training can be extended even to women from rural areas, working women, etc. Girls who receive the training must see to it that they train other girls and women. This will provide a protective shield to society as well. The Nirbhaya scheme is implemented at a cost of Rs. 700 crores. We have decided to extend this scheme to all the cities and soon we will initiate the process.”
