Leader of opposition and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah, on Friday, criticized the Karnataka State government, particularly the Kannada and Culture Department for “bowing down to Hindi imposition.”
In a series of Tweets, the Congress leader shared a screenshot of the Kannada and Culture Department’s website showing a banner of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign written in Hindi and said, “The website of Kannada and Culture Department is proof enough that the government of the state @BJP4Karnataka has completely surrendered to Hindi language.”
He also said that “The banner of the program ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ in which the Union Minister @AmitShah
participated was completely behind the scenes. On the other hand, the Department of Kannada and Culture is flaunting Hindi on its website.”
He also questioned the correctness of showing the Hindi banner advertisements in the department that was formed to further the cause of Kannada. “If the department which is there for the protection and nurturing of Kannada and its culture, excludes Kannada, which has a history of two thousand years, and promotes the Hindi language, who will protect the Kannada language?” he sought to know.
Further, Siddaramaiah advised the government to “First remove Hindi from this website and save the self-respect of Kannadigas.”
