K’taka Govt issues circular on mandatory usage of Kannada language in govt prgms

Bengaluru: The Chief Secretary of the Karnataka Government, Vandita Sharma issued a circular on Tuesday, September 6, stating that the Kannada language is mandatory henceforth in all the programmes organized by the state and the Centre.

In the circular, it is mentioned that as per the Karnataka Official Language Act of 1963, Kannada is the official language of the state and shall be used at all levels of administration. Based on this the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) is established to protect the interest of Kannadigas.

In its letter, KDA mentioned that in the programmes organized by the Centre and the state, the Kannada language is mandatory. The banners, posters etc., too shall have writings in Kannada. To implement this, all the heads of the government departments have been directed.
