Bengaluru: Karnataka state government has decided to change the name of ‘Mini Vidhana Soudhas’ in taluk centers to “Taluk Adalitha Soudha”  (Taluk Administrative Complex).

The government issued an order to this effect. It mentioned that the decision to rename the taluk administrative offices in consonance with the official language policy and linguistic culture of the state. Kannada being the official language of the state, it is decided to rename all ‘Mini Vidhana Soudha’ as “Taluk Adalitha Soudha”, the notification said.

The Chairman of Kannada Development Authority, Kannda writers and other distinguished personalities had raised objections to the English word “mini” in the name and had suggested renaming them as “Taluk Adalitha Soudha” a purely Kannda name.  The government has agreed to these demands with the latest order.

The state revenue department had issued a circular instructing all regional commissioners, district collectors and tahsildars to take all necessary steps to designate the taluk administration as ‘Taluk Adalitha Soudha’ instead of the name ‘Mini Vidhana Soudha’.
