K’taka govt orders sugar factories to share profit received from sale of byproducts with farmers

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has ordered the sugar factories to transfer the profit achieved from the sale of molasses (a byproduct of sugarcane and sugar substitute) to the sugarcane farmers.
The government has ordered the sugar factories to pay additional Rs. 100 per metric ton, excluding the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP). By this, the sugarcane farmers of the state will be an additional amount of Rs. 622 crores.
In terms of ethanol production (a byproduct of sugarcane), the government had ordered to pay a total of Rs. 204 crores.
Currently, the government has ordered to share the profit amount of Rs. 804 crores with sugarcane farmers, achieved from the sale of sugarcane byproducts molasses and ethanol.
