K’taka govt to build budget homes valued at Rs 5 lakhs in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The State government will be building affordable houses for the poor in the city that will be sold at Rs 5 lakhs.

The first batch of these houses – about 6,000 – will be handed over to their homeowners on August 15.

The houses, built by the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Limited (RGHCL), are mostly 1 BHK houses and are subsidised by the Central and State governments.

Additionally, the houses will have further discount for SC/ST buyers who will have to pay Rs 4.2 lakhs for them.

Housing Minister V Somanna has already held meetings with officials to construct further 1 lakh houses in the city. About 450 acres of land with the BBMP and the Revenue Department has been identified for this purpose.
