K’taka Polls: 12 candidates withdraw nominations in DK

Mangaluru: As many as 12 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers in eight assembly constituencies of the Dakshina Kannada district.
April 24 marked the last day for candidates to withdraw their nomination papers ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections.
In Mangalore (Ullal) Assembly segment, JD(S) candidate Altaf Kumpala withdrawing his nomination has led to a controversy.
Katipalla Muhammad Nawaz and Supreeth Kumar Poojary, who had filed as independent candidates from Mangalore City North Constituency, withdrew their nominations.
Similarly, Abdul Majeed Khan from Bantwal segment, K. Subrahmanya Bhat and Nawaz Sharif from Belthangady, Maxim Pinto from Moodabidiri, P. Ibrahim and Muhammad Ashraf-Kallega from Puttur, Muhammad Ataullah (independent) and Balakrishna Poojary Boliyaru (Janahita Party) from Mangaluru (Ullal), and Satish B from Sullia constituency have also withdrawn their nominations.
However, none of the candidates from Mangaluru South and Bantwal constituencies have withdrawn their nomination papers.
