Bengaluru: The State government has decided to make the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) the sole provider of distance education in the State.
Higher Education Minister C N Ashwath stated that to revive the credibility of the University and distance learning in the State the government decided to make KSOU the sole open university in the State.
The University was derecognised by the University Grants Commission in 2015 due to scams involving some top officials of the University. After many efforts by officials of the State government, recognition was regranted in 2017.
The government will bar all other universities from offering distance education courses. Current students can finish the courses they are enrolled in, however, all fresh enrollments will be made under KSOU, Narayan added.
The University has recently launched its own app as well as a video conferencing app.
